Grosz, Ryun, and Graf take night two wins at
Jackson Nationals

Jackson Minnesota (August 21, 2009) - On a rather cool and breezy night 71
Sprint Cars checked in the ASA Sanctioned Jackson Speedway for night two of the
31st Annual Jackson Nationals sponsored by Svoboda Excavating of
Jackson. Picking up the nights qualifying feature race wins were Lee Grosz,
Harwood ND, Jackson Speedway Touring Series U.S. Army Sprints and Brad Ryun,
Higginsville MO, Napa of Windom 305 Sprint Cars. Winning the Jackpot Junction
IMCA Sprint Car Nationals title was Chris Graf, Glencoe MN.
In the 25-lap JSTS Sprint car feature race it was Lee Grosz getting the early lead from his outside row one starting position. Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, would get the second spot with Justin Henderson, Sioux Falls SD, getting the third spot. On lap two Henderson would challenge Nygaard for the second spot but he was able to hold him off. As the race continued on Grosz would begin to pull away from the field as Nygaard ran second and Winters third. On lap nine the races only caution came out when Robby Wolfgang, Sioux Falls SD, spun in turn two. On the restart, Grosz would maintain the number one spot as Nygaard remained in the second spot and Winters third. On lap eighteen Winters would work his way around Nygaard and move into the second spot. Lee Grosz would go on to take the win. He was followed by Scott Winters, Wade Nygaard, Justin Henderson, and Brian Brown, Grain Valley MO. The B Feature was won by Robby Wolfgang with heat races going to Jesse Drost, Brian Brown, Wade Nygaard, and Casey Heser.
Three different drivers led in the 20-lap 305 Sprint car feature race. At the start, Matt Stephenson, Des Moines IA, would get the early lead with Russell Wiese, Spencer IA, getting second spot and Frank Phipps, Everly IA, the third spot. On lap three the caution flag came out when Devin Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, came to a stop in turn four. On the restart, Frank Phipps would go off the track in turn one and make heavy contact with the retaining wall. He was ok but done for the night. On the restart, Stephenson would keep the field behind him as Wiese ran second and Brad Ryun ran third. On lap six Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, would get by Ryun for third only to lose the spot back to him two laps later. While working on lap twelve the next caution came when race leader Matt Stephenson got tangled up with a slowing lap car on the back straightway causing damage to the front end of his car. He was done for the night and that handed the lead over to Russell Wiese. Wiese would hold off the field on the restart, and began to pull away, however six laps later Wiese caused the next caution flag when his radiator broke in turn four, putting water on the speedway causing him to spin and forcing him out of the race. That handed the lead over to Brad Ryun who would lead the remaining three laps and picked up the win. He was followed by Casey Friedrichsen, Austin Johnson, Minneapolis MN, Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, and Rob Kubli, Milo IA. Heat race wins went to Russell Weise and Matt Stephenson.
Two cautions slowed action in the 20-lap IMCA Sprint Car feature. At the start it was Chris Graf getting the early lead from his pole starting spot. Neil Stevens, Bingham Lake MN, would get the second spot with Jennifer Eriksen, Burnsville MN, getting third spot. The leaders raced in this order for the first seven laps when the caution flag came out for Stevens who spun in turn four. The restart saw Graf maintain his number one spot with Eriksen now in second and Brett Geldner, St. Peter MN, now in third. On lap eleven Geldner would get around Eriksen for the second spot and on the next lap Curt Lund, Redwood Falls MN, who started 15th in race, would get by Eriksen for the third spot. As race continued on Graf maintained his lead with Geldner in second and Lund third. One more caution would slow the action as Stevens spun a second time coming out of turn two. That set up a two lap dash to the end and when the checkered flag flew it was Chris Graf taking the win. He was followed by Brett Geldner, Curt Lund, John Greenwood, Woodward IA, and Bradley Lund, Fairfax MN. Heat races were won by Brett Geldner and Chris Graf.
Tonight is the final night of the 31st Annual Jackson Nationals sponsored by Erickson Trucks N Parts of Jackson. Tonights action will feature a complete program for the JSTS Sprints along with championship races for the 305 sprints, Stocks Cars, Hobby Stocks, B Modifieds, and Hornets. Hot laps will be at 7:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
