Leighty, Thurmer, Schroeder, and
Strandberg take Jackson County Fair Wins

Jackson Minnesota (August 4, 2007) -
After receiving over an inch of rain in the early morning the
Jackson Speedway track crew worked throughout the day getting the
facility ready for the annual Jackson County Fair races. Saturday
afternoon before the races, five individuals were inducted into the
Jackson Speedway Hall of Fame including Bobby and the late Elmer
Thurmer, the late Ronnie Kauffman, Leland Erickson, and the late Vic
Dicks. When racing action got underway, picking up the nights
feature race wins were Jake Leighty, Worthington MN, Q102 Sprints;
Curt Thurmer, Jackson MN, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints; Trent
Schroeder, Worthington MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars, and
Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.
One drivers
misfortune was anothers fortune in the 20-lap Q102 Sprint Car
feature race. At the start it was Casey Heser, Jackson MN, getting
the early lead from his outside row one starting spot. Jake Leighty
would grab the second spot and Brandon Geldner, St. Peter MN, the
third position. As the race continued under green, Heser would
start to pull away from the field, as Leighty would also pull away
from the third place running Geldner. As the leaders started to
move into some lap traffic, the red flag would come out on lap
thirteen when Heser and Nick Lusk, Jackson MN, came in contact,
sending both cars flipping several times in turns three and four.
Heser and Lusk would walk away but both cars were heavily damaged.
That gave the restart lead to Leighty who led the last seven laps
unchallenged and went on to pick up his first ever 360 Sprint Car
feature race win. Brandon Geldner took second followed by Gordy
Vogelaar, Worthington MN, Jesse Drost, Rushmore MN, and Bill Boles,
Harris IA. Heat races were won by Bill Boles and Gordy Vogelaar.
It was all Curt
Thurmer in the 15-lap Pizza Ranch Limited Sprint car feature race.
At the start Thurmer would get the lead from his outside row one
starting spot. Doug Bratrud, Jackson MN would get the second spot
with Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, the third spot. As the race
went on Thurmer would show the field around the track, pulling away
from second place running Bratrud lap after lap. On lap eight the
race for third heated up as Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, would get by
Friedrichsen and move into that spot. Thurmer however would not
look back and go on to take the win on a very special night for him,
as his late father Elmer was inducted into the Hall of Fame earlier
in the day. Doug Bratrud was second followed by Bruce Anderson,
Mike Blomstrom, Lakeville MN, and Jeff Edgington, Sioux Falls SD.
Heat races were won by Steve Yarns, Jackson MN, and Curt Thurmer.
A last lap pass
for the lead took Trent Schroeder to victory lane in the 15-lap
Performance Center IMCA Stock Car feature. At the start it was Jim
Millard, Spencer IA, getting the early lead from his pole starting
spot. Gary Bannister, Lakefield MN, would get the second spot with
Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, the third position. On lap three
Schroeder who was in the fourth spot challenged Bodle for the third
position and was able to get by him on the fourth lap. On lap seven
the caution came out when Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, came to a stop on
the back straightaway. On the restart Millard would keep the field
behind although Bannister and Schroeder were knocking on his back
door. Lap ten saw another caution when Bannister and Bodle both
spun in turns one and two. Bannister would then receive the black
flag when he started making contact with Schroeder before restart of
the race. On the restart Jim Millard would keep the field behind,
but again Schroeder would make his presence known. On lap eleven
Stefan Sybesma, Sanborn IA, would also get involved with the battle
up front. When the field was shown the white flag Schroeder and
Millard were side by side and when they raced out of turn four it
was Trent Schroeder picking up the win, just getting by Millard.
Jim Millard had to settle for second followed by Stefan Sybesma,
Chad Raverty, Heron Lake MN, and Shaun Bruns, Olivia MN. Heat races
were won by John Millard and Trent Schroeder.
Two different
drivers led the 12-lap Hobby Stock feature race. At the start it
was Ernie Dailey, Worthington MN, getting the lead. Chad Carlson,
Ormsby MN, would get the second spot with Brodie McKeown, Heron Lake
MN, the third spot. At the end of lap one the races only caution
came out when Brandon Halverson, Jackson MN, came to a stop in turn
four. On the restart Dailey held the field off, but coming on
strong was Dan Strandberg moving into the third spot on lap three
after starting ninth. The next lap Strandberg would get by Carlson
for second and then move into the lead going into turn one on lap
five. Dailey would then ride in the second spot for the next several
lap until Dan Thate, Fairmont MN would work his way up to the third
spot and then move into second on lap eight. Dan Strandberg however
had too big of a lead and went on to take the win. Dan Thate took
second followed by Ernie Dailey, Chad Carlson, and Brodie McKeown.
Heat race wins went to Dan Strandberg and Dan Thate.
