Peterson and Christensen take Jackson Nationals Wins
Schroeder and Lucas take qualifying wins

By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (August 16, 2007) - With 96 race cars in the pit area the Jackson Speedway opened night one Thursday of the 29th Annual Kemna-Asa Auto Plaza Jackson Nationals presented by 95.1 “The Eagle” and Areo Race Wheels.  Picking up Nationals Championships were Donovan Peterson, Brookings SD, Heartland Racing Association Non-Winged Sprints, and Clayton Christensen, Spencer IA, Modifieds.  Trent Schroeder, Worthington MN, picked up the Performance Center Stock Car qualifying feature win, while Cody Lucas, Cherokee IA, took the qualifying feature win in the Hobby Stocks.

It was all Donovan Peterson in the 12-lap Non-Winged Sprint car feature.  Peterson started on the outside of row one and took the lead going into turn one.  Andy Anderson, Harrisburg SD, grabbed the second spot, with Miles Grein, Sioux Falls SD, the third spot.  The leaders raced in this order for the first half of the race until Eric Schulz, Sioux Falls SD, started to pressure Grein for the third spot.  While working on lap ten Schulz was able to get by Grein and move into the third spot.  Donovan Peterson however, would go on unchallenged and pick up the win.  Andy Anderson took second followed by Eric Schulz, Miles Grein, and Randy Rosenboom.  Heat race winners were Andy Anderson and Donovan Peterson.

Several cautions slowed action in the 20-lap Modified feature race.  On the original start James Slawson, Spencer IA came in contact with the wall in turn three and Oliver Kollofski, Fairmont MN, having no place to go, got into Slawson.  Both drivers were ok but done for the night.  On the complete restart, Clayton Christensen would get the lead from his pole starting spot.  Reese Coffee, Hinton IA, would get the second spot with Jeff Ignaszewski, Wells MN, getting the third spot.  On lap five the caution came out when Dallas Nutt, Armstrong IA, came to a stop on the back straightaway.  On the restart, Christensen would stay up front with Coffee in second but Denny Anderson, Rochester MN, would get by Ignaszewski for third.  The leaders would stay in this order through two more restarts, when Anderson pulled his car into the pit area while working on lap eleven.  That gave third place back to Ignaszewski.  On lap sixteen Robb Nutt, Armstrong IA, spun on the front straightaway forcing cars to take extreme measures to avoid him.  Nutt’s steering broke so once the car was towed off the track, racing resumed and Christensen would maintain the lead, and go on to pick up the win.  Reese Coffee took second.  Jeff Ignaszewski crossed the line in third, but was disqualified when his car came up light at the scales.  That moved the finishing order up one spot and gave third to Dwaine Hanson, Lakefield MN, followed by Terry Hanning, Armstrong IA, and Roger Nielsen, Estherville IA. Heat races were won by Clayton Christensen, Reese Coffee, and Denny Anderson.

Two different drivers led in the 18-lap Performance Center Stock Car feature race.  At the start of the race it was Dustin Smith, Lake City IA, getting the early lead from his outside row one starting spot. While working on lap two Smith got too high in turns one and two allowing Trent Schroeder to go down low and get the lead coming out of turn two.  The caution flag would soon fly as Brice Bodle, Wallingford IA, and Roger Verdoorn, Sibley IA, came to a stop in turn four.  On the restart Schroeder kept the field behind as Smith raced in second and Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN, third.  The leaders raced in this order until lap eight when the caution came out for Tom Suess, New Ulm MN, and Randy Lawrey, Cherokee IA, who came in contact in turn three.  On the restart Smith looked for the lead from Schroeder, but he would hold him off.  On lap ten, Luinenberg would challenge Smith for second and on lap eleven Luinenberg would get the position only to loose it back to Smith while working on lap twelve.  Two laps later the caution came out for Smith who stopped on the back straightaway.  On the restart, Schroeder kept the field behind as Matt Scharn, Sac City IA, moved into the second spot with four to go, and as the race wound down Jim Larson, Rushmore MN, would challenge Luinenberg for third but he kept him behind.  When the checkered flag flew it was Trent Schroeder picking up the win followed by Matt Scharn, Justin Luinenberg, Jim Larson, and James Brower, Sanborn IA.  The B Feature was won by Tom Suess with the heats going to Matt Scharn, Trent Schroeder, Dustin Smith, and James Brower.

The 15-lap Hobby Stock feature race saw two different leaders.  At the start it was Kent Husted, Sioux City IA, getting the early lead with Dan Strandberg, Worthington MN, getting the second spot and Cody Lucas, Cherokee IA, the third position.  At the end of lap one the caution came out when several cars spun in turn four.  On the restart, Husted kept the field behind as Josh Bonnstetter, Slayton MN, moved into the third spot.  Two laps later Bonnstetter would pressure Strandberg for the second spot, but he kept him behind.  On lap nine the caution came out when Bonnstetter and Husted made contact while battling it out for the lead in turn two.  Both drivers were sent to the rear, and that gave the restart lead to Strandberg.  Strandberg however was unable to keep Lucas behind him on the restart. Lucas would survive one more caution flag and go on to pick up the feature race win.  Dan Strandberg took second with Jerry Gronewold, Worthington MN, Chad Krug, Mallard IA, and Brodie McKeown, Heron Lake MN, followed Lucas across the line.  The B Feature was won by Todd Boulware, Jefferson SD, with heat races going to Kent Husted, Dan Strandberg, Shawn Klaassen, Little Rock IA, and Cody Lucas.

The 29th Annual Kemna-Asa Auto Plaza Jackson Nationals continues tonight with the Sprint Car Spectacular sponsored by Svoboda Excavating.  The night will feature qualifying for the ASCS Sprints, and Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints, along with a complete program for the Jackpot Junction IMCA Sprints.  The Nationals will wrap-up for Erickson Trucks-N-Parts night on Saturday with Championship races for the Q102 ASCS Sprints, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints, Performance Center Stock Cars, and Hobby Stocks.  Hot laps both nights at 7:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
