Win at Jackson

Svoboda/Jackson Speedway
Jackson Minnesota (July 28, 2007) -
With clear skies and warm temperatures a good field of cars pulled
in for KKOJ/KRAQ Radio of Jackson, The Performance Center of
Estherville IA, and Justice Brothers Race Night. Picking up the
nights feature race wins were Russell Wiese, Lake Park IA, Q102
Sprints; Steve Yarns, Jackson MN, Pizza Ranch Limited Sprints; Trent
Schroeder, Worthington MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars, and
Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.
The 20-lap Q102
Sprint feature saw a first time winner in victory lane. At the
start of the race it was Russell Wiese getting the early lead from
his outside row one starting position. Jake Leighty would get the
second spot with Shawn Van Wyhe the third position. At the end of
lap one a very nasty wreck happened in turn one which involved
Stephanie Dicks, Rochester MN, Jeremy Dronen, Heron Lake MN, AJ
Stevens, Bingham Lake MN, and Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA. Dicks
and Dronen each went over several times. Dicks was taken to the
Jackson Hospital to be checked but was back at the track later that
night. When racing resumed Wiese would hold off the field as
Leighty maintained the second spot and Gordy Vogelaar, Worthington
MN, ran in third. As the race went on Wiese would build up a
comfortable lead over the field. On lap nine the caution came out
when Mike Young, Windom MN, spun on the front straightaway, did a
360 and came to a stop. On the restart, again Wiese would keep the
field behind him, as Leighty ran second and Vogelaar third. As the
laps wound down it was Russell Wiese going on to take his first ever
feature race win. Jake Leighty took second followed by Gordy
Vogelaar, Bill Boles, Harris IA, and Jesse Drost, Worthington MN.
Heat race winners were Gordy Vogelaar and Bill Boles.
Two different
drivers led in the 15-lap Pizza Ranch Limited Sprint car feature
race. At the start it was Jake Nicosen getting the early lead with
Steve Yarns, the second spot and Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, the
third position. The leaders raced in this order for the first three
laps when Yarns was able to get by Nicosen only to see the yellow
flag come out when Jeff Edgington, Sioux Falls SD, had his top wing
fall forward on his car. That put Yarns back into the second spot
and Nicosen back up front. On the restart, Yarns would make his
move and get into the lead putting Nicosen back to second. Then as
the race went on Yarns would build up a rather comfortable lead over
the field. Steve Yarns would then lead the rest of the race
uncontested and go on to pick up the feature race win. Jake Nicosen
took second followed by Casey Friedrichsen, Arthur IA, Nate Eakin,
Milford IA, and Mark Hodgins, Spencer IA. Heat races went to Mike
Blomstrom, Lakeville MN, and Doug Bratrud, Jackson MN.
Two different
drivers led in the caution filled 15-lap Performance Center IMCA
Stock Car feature race. At the start it was Luke Saathoff, Belle
Plaine MN, getting the early lead from his outside row one starting
spot. Brad Scheibel, Essig MN, would get the second spot with Al
Thoms, Fairmont MN, getting the third position. On lap two Scheibel
and Thoms would swap positions, and continue on with Saathoff up
front followed by Thoms and Scheibel. The yellow flag would be seen
at the end of laps four, five and six; each time Saathoff would keep
the field behind on the restart. On lap ten the caution came out
again for debris and Scheibel would take his machine to the pits.
On the restart Saathoff would stay up front but Trent Schroeder
would move into the second spot after restarting the race in third.
On lap twelve Schroeder would get by Saathoff in turns three and
four and take over the lead. Another caution on lap thirteen set up
a green white checkered finish, and Trent Schroeder would keep the
field behind and go on to take the win. He was followed by Luke
Saathoff, Al Thoms, Justin Luinenberg, Reading MN, and Stefan
Sybesma, Sanborn IA. Heat races were won by Gary Bannister,
Lakefield MN, Jim Larson, Rushmore MN, and Brad Scheibel.
The 12-lap IMCA
Hobby Stock feature race saw two different leaders. At the start it
was Chad Carlson, Ormsby MN, getting the early lead. Dustin Larson,
Rushmore MN, would get the second spot with Darryl Bortvit,
Estherville IA, the third spot. The leaders raced in this order for
the first half of the race, until Dan Thate, Fairmont MN, who stared
back in row six moved into the third spot on lap six. On lap eight
Larson would get by Carlson and take the lead. Two laps later Thate
would move into second and set his sights on Larson for the lead.
Dustin Larson however would hold him off and go on to take the win.
Dan Thate had to settle for second and was followed by Chad Carlson,
Cody Lucas, Cherokee IA, and Adam Ecker, Comfrey MN. Heat races
went to Jerry Gronewold, Worthington MN, Dustin Larson, and Dan
Thate.
