Nygaard, Anderson, Schroeder, and
Strandberg take Jackson Wins

Jackson Minnesota (May 19, 2007) -
A late afternoon shower and rain
around the area, didn’t slow the program nor the fans from coming
out for Poppe’s 66 of Fairmont MN and Welcome Meats of Welcome MN,
race night. Taking the nights feature race wins were Wade Nygaard,
Fargo ND, Q102 360 Outlaw Sprints; Bruce Anderson, Trimont MN, Pizza
Ranch Limited Sprints/Midwest 305 Sprints; Trent Schroeder,
Worthington MN, Performance Center IMCA Stock Cars, and Dan
Strandberg, Worthington MN, IMCA Hobby Stocks.
Three different
drivers led in the 20-lap Q102 360 Outlaw Sprint feature. At the
start it was Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA, getting the early lead from
his outside row one starting spot. Bill Boles, Harris IA, and Wade
Nygaard, would grab the second and third spots. As the field worked
lap three Boles would get by Toews for the lead as they raced into
turn three. With Boles now up front Toews would run second as
Nygaard continued in third. Several more laps would be put in the
books when Nygaard would work his way up into the second spot
getting by Toews. As the leaders took the cross flags, Nygaard
would set his sights on leader Bill Boles, and slowly but surely
catch up to him on the tenth lap. As the leaders worked lap eleven
Nygaard would get by Boles and take over the lead. Just behind the
leader was a hard charging Scott Winters, Butterfield MN, who took
the “Brinkman and Reed Need for Speed” Challenge. Winters started
last in the feature race line-up and at the halfway point was in
fifth and coming hard. The leaders continued to race with Nygaard
up front followed by Boles, Toews and Winters. Several more laps
would get in the books when the races first caution came out when
Lee Grosz, Harwood ND, slowed on the back straightaway bringing out
the caution flag. That bunched the field up and on the restart
Nygaard would hold off the field while Winters would get by Toews
for third. When the checkered flag flew it was Wade Nygaard taking
the win followed by Bill Boles, Scott Winters, who picked up an
extra $100 bonus, Curt Lund, Redwood Falls MN, and Mark Toews. Heat
races would go to Mark Toews and Scott Winters.
It was a race of
survival in the scheduled 15-lap Pizza Ranch Limited Sprint/Midwest
305 Sprint car feature race. Thirteen cars took the green flag but
only four finished with the race cut to eleven laps. At the start
of the race it was Bruce Anderson getting the early lead from his
front row starting spot. Doug Bratrud, Jackson MN, would get the
second spot with Ryan Yager, Ringsted IA, the third position. The
leaders would race in these positions through the seventh lap when
Bratrud would get a broken front axel and come to stop on the back
straightaway. On the restart Bob Hildreth, Iowa Falls IA, would
make contact with another car on the restart and also break a front
axel coming to stop in turn two. This caution would soon turn in a
red flag as five cars came together on the front straightaway,
taking out half of the remaining field. When the racetrack was
finally cleared of the carnage, Anderson would only get one more lap
in the books when Brandon Stevenson, Holstein IA, got into the wall
in turns three and four, bringing out another caution flag. Once
again Anderson would put one more lap on the board when another red
flag came out for Mike Blomstrom, Lakeville MN, when his right rear
tire broke sending him into the wall in turns three and four. At
this point officials announced a green-white-checkered finish to the
race. When the green flew again Bruce Anderson kept the field
behind him and went to take the win. Shadrach Sporaa, Boone IA,
would cross the line in second, but came up light at the scales and
was disqualified. That moved the finishing order up one spot and
gave second place to Marty Stephenson, Mitchellville IA, followed by
Steve Yarns, Jackson MN. Credited with fourth was Jake Nicosen,
Ringsted IA, while Mike Blomstrom was credited with fifth. Heat
races were won by Bruce Anderson and Jake Leighty, Worthington MN.
It was all Trent
Schroeder in the 15-lap green-white-checkered Performance Center
IMCA Stock Car feature race. At the drop of the green it was
Schroeder getting the early lead from his outside row one starting
spot. Jim Larson, Rushmore MN, would get the second spot with Luke
Saathoff, Belle Plaine MN, getting the third position. On lap two
Larson would attempt to get the lead from Schroeder but was
unsuccessful. On lap three the battle for the fourth spot was on as
Jerry Coopman, Mankato MN, and Matt Hagedorn, Royal IA, raced side
by side for position. The fifth lap saw Coopman move up to the
third position as Saathoff battled him hard for the spot. For the
next several laps, with Schroeder up front, Larson would maintain
second with Coopman in third. On lap eight Coopman would get by
Larson for the second spot. With Schroeder up front Coopman would
need a few laps to catch him and on the twelfth lap Coopman would
attempt to get the lead in turns one and two but Schroeder kept him
behind. As the race wound down Schroeder would stay out front and
go on to take the win. Jerry Coopman would take second followed by
Stefan Sybesma, Sanborn IA, Jim Larson, and Luke Saathoff. Heat
races were won by Jim Larson and Jerry Coopman.
Two different
drivers led in the 12-lap Hobby Stock feature race. At the start
Dustin Larson, Rushmore MN, got the lead from his pole starting
position, followed by Ernie Dailey, Worthington MN, and Jason
Andrews, Okabena MN. On lap two Andrews would challenge Dailey for
second but Dailey held him off. Several more laps got in when Dan
Strandberg worked his way into the top three on lap seven. The next
lap he would get by Dailey for the second position. While working
on lap ten Strandberg would race side by side with Larson for the
lead down the back straightaway and get the lead coming out of turn
four. Dan Strandberg would lead the remaining two laps and go on to
take the win. Dustin Larson settled for second followed by Brodie
McKeown, Heron Lake MN, John Briggs, Calumet IA, and Doug Wark,
Jordan MN. Heat race winners were Dustin Larson and Dan Strandberg.
This Saturday
night at Jackson Speedway hosts its first annual post post prom
party sponsored by Riverside Sinclair and Houseman Oil of
Estherville. All four classes will be in action with Hot Laps a
7:00 p.m. with racing to follow.
